Karachi schools to remain closed tomorrow amid heavy rains

Sindh government suspends classes across city as precautionary safety measure

KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Sindh government announced on Tuesday evening that all public and private schools across Karachi will remain closed tomorrow (Wednesday) following heavy monsoon rains that inundated large parts of the city and disrupted civic life.

The decision was taken as a precautionary measure after torrential downpours triggered urban flooding in several neighbourhoods, paralysed traffic on major roads and caused prolonged power outages. Education officials said the closure is aimed at ensuring the safety of students, teachers and staff while drainage and relief operations continue.

The announcement came shortly after Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah directed civic and rescue authorities to remain on high alert during the ongoing spell of heavy showers. He instructed district administrations and local bodies to expedite drainage work, while urging citizens to avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.

Torrential rains drench Karachi, sparking power outages and traffic chaos

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), intermittent rains accompanied by thunderstorms are expected to continue across Karachi and other parts of Sindh over the next three days. Saadi Town, Gulshan-i-Maymar and Nazimabad recorded the heaviest rainfall by Tuesday afternoon, while areas including Gulshan-i-Hadeed, Malir, Surjani Town and Shahrah-i-Faisal were also badly affected.

Traffic police have issued fresh advisories warning of water accumulation on key arteries such as MA Jinnah Road, University Road, Korangi and Nazimabad Underpass. Citizens have been urged to maintain slow speeds, avoid sudden braking and keep safe distances on slippery roads.
