ATC sentences four PTI workers to jail in Nov 26 protest case

The convicts pleaded guilty, admitting they had participated in the violent protest

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News): An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday sentenced four Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers to imprisonment in connection with the November 26 protest case.

ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah announced the verdict after hearing arguments from prosecutor Zaheer Shah and the defence lawyers.

The court handed down four-month jail terms each to PTI workers Amir Khan, Sardar Khan, Khan Muhammad, and Javed Iqbal under charges of arson and vandalism registered at Attock’s Hanjra police station.

During proceedings, the convicts pleaded guilty, admitting they had participated in the violent protest on the call of party leadership. They requested leniency, citing their status as poor labourers.

It is worth noting that earlier this year, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had granted bail to dozens of PTI workers arrested in the same case. In May, a two-member bench led by Acting Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Muhammad Asif approved the release of 86 workers on surety bonds of Rs 10,000 each.

In February, IHC had also granted bail to 120 PTI workers detained in connection with the November 26 protest and ordered their immediate release.
