Flood aid doubled as KP, federal govt step up relief efforts

CM Gandapur increases compensation; Ministers reaffirm national response to monsoon devastatation

PESHAWAR/ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – On the orders of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, the provincial government has doubled the compensation for flood victims and formally begun distributing payments to affected families.

According to KP Information Adviser Barrister Saif, the compensation for families of deceased individuals has been increased from Rs 1 million to Rs 2 million. A total of Rs 850 million released to the affected districts, and the distribution of cheques is currently underway. Chief Minister Gandapur also visited Swat, where he personally handed over compensation cheques to affected families.

Barrister Saif reiterated that the provincial government stands firmly with the flood-hit communities and that the Chief Minister is visiting impacted areas himself to oversee relief efforts. He also warned of upcoming heavy rains, advising the public to stay cautious, avoid rivers and streams, and report emergencies by calling helpline 1700.

Meanwhile, in Islamabad, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar described the ongoing rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts as a “national obligation.” During a press briefing with Climate Change Minister Musadik Malik and NDMA Chairman Lt. Gen Inam Haider, Tarar assured that both federal and provincial governments are coordinating efforts to respond to the monsoon flooding.

He said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting to review the situation, and ongoing rescue and relief operations in affected areas were discussed in depth. Tarar also highlighted that multiple coordination meetings had been held at the National Command and Control Centre before the onset of monsoon rains, with active participation from all provinces.

“The NDMA’s Early Warning System has been continuously supplying data to relevant authorities,” Tarar added. He also confirmed that armed forces and emergency agencies are actively engaged in relief efforts across KP, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
