PM donates cabinet's one-month salary to KP flood victims

Preliminary estimates suggest losses of more than Rs126million

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday announced that members of the federal cabinet will donate their one-month salary to support flood-hit families in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The announcement came during a high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister in Islamabad, where the overall flood situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir was reviewed in detail. The meeting was attended by federal ministers, the NDMA chairman, and senior officials from relevant departments.

PM Shehbaz said this is no time for politics but a time to stand shoulder to shoulder with the people in distress. He stressed that the distinction between federal and provincial governments should not come in the way of relief efforts, adding that helping the victims must be the top priority.

The prime minister directed federal ministers to personally oversee relief and rehabilitation operations in the affected regions. The Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan was tasked with supervising the overall relief drive, while the Minister for Communications and the NHA chairman were told to focus on reopening damaged roads and bridges without delay.

The Power minister was instructed to visit affected areas and restore electricity on an urgent basis, while the Ministry of Health was asked to rush in medical teams and medicines.

According to updates shared in the meeting, 456 relief camps have been set up and more than 400 rescue operations carried out so far. The NDMA has already sent tents, food supplies, medicines, and medical teams to the hardest-hit areas.

Preliminary estimates suggest losses of more than Rs126million. Officials also warned that the monsoon season will continue until the second week of September, with at least two more heavy spells expected.

PM Shehbaz directed the NDMA to prepare a comprehensive report on the losses and ensure a clear plan for the fair distribution of relief items. The Ministry of Finance assured that necessary funds would be released without red tape.

The Prime Minister made it clear that federal ministers would stay in the field until the last affected family receives help and essential infrastructure is back on its feet.
