Authorities say 250 children have not gone missing from school in Buner

BONER (Dunya News) - Authorities have dismissed false social media claims that 250 children went missing due to devastating floods in the Pir Baba area of Buner, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

The school principal clarified that, as a precautionary measure, children were safely relocated to the upper floor of the school following flood warnings.

Officials are urging the public to verify information before sharing unverified social media posts to prevent misinformation during this crisis.

The 2025 monsoon season has brought catastrophic flash floods across Pakistan, particularly in KP’s Buner district, where a rare cloudburst on August 15 dumped over 150 mm of rain in a single hour, triggering widespread destruction.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reports that the floods, which began in late June, have claimed over 657 lives nationwide, with 307 deaths in KP alone, including at least 207 in Buner.
