ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – President Asif Ali Zardari, in his message marking the launch of the nationwide monsoon tree plantation campaign, stated that Pakistan faces severe threats from climate change, and in this context, the tree plantation drive is a guarantee for the country’s safe future.
The president shared that over 41 million saplings will be planted across the country from August to October this year. He emphasized that planting trees is a national duty of every citizen, as trees symbolize life for the environment and are the strongest defense against climate change.
He pointed out that deforestation, rising temperatures, and recurring floods are affecting millions of lives. In such circumstances, a nation’s development depends on the protection of forests and the natural environment.
President Zardari appealed to the public to plant as many trees as possible for a greener, cleaner, and more prosperous Pakistan, stating that each tree planted is a source of life for future generations and a shield against disasters.
Highlighting the recent devastation caused by rains and floods in different parts of the country, he stressed the need for a decisive and collective effort to increase tree plantation and make the Green Pakistan Program a success.
The president urged youth to lead the plantation campaign and become ambassadors of change. He also encouraged farmers to protect their crops and environment by planting trees, and appealed to the media, civil society, community leaders, and religious scholars to mobilize public support for this national cause.
