Independence Day events in Islamabad postponed amid KP flood tragedy

The event planned at F-9 Park was called off to express solidarity with the victims

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The “Maraka-e-Haq” and Independence Day celebrations scheduled for today (Saturday) and tomorrow in Islamabad have been postponed due to loss of lives caused by heavy rains and flooding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

On the directives of Information Minister Atta Tarar, the event planned at F-9 Park was called off to express solidarity with the victims and focus on relief efforts.

Meanwhile, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has declared a day of mourning across the province, with the national flag to remain at half-mast.

He further revealed that a provincial government helicopter carrying relief goods crashed in Bajaur due to bad weather. 

The helicopter took off at 10:30 AM for Salarzai in Bajaur. On its return from the relief operations, the helicopter met with an accident in Mohmand. The crash occurred due to bad weather and heavy fog, the reports revealed.
