Few individuals now dominate Parliament, says Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui

Siddiqui said MQM Pakistan celebrates Independence Day as a “mission of freedom"

KARACHI (Dunya News) - Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan Convener and Federal Minister for Education Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has lamented that while his party once sent ordinary citizens to the assemblies, today power rests in the hands of a select few.

In a statement, Siddiqui said MQM Pakistan celebrates Independence Day as a “mission of freedom,” noting that this year’s observance carries a different sentiment.

Recalling his party’s 40-year struggle for equal rights, he questioned whether Karachi’s current state was better than before 2008, and likened governance issues to an imbalanced household.

He pointed to a disparity between those who contribute fully and those who consume fully. He warned that the condition of the city’s canals raised concerns for the future of the K-IV water project.
