Indonesia deploys military to air drop aid supplies to Gaza

The mission aimed to distribute at least 800,000 kilograms of aid through air drop operations

(Reuters) – Indonesia’s military held a ceremony in its capital city of Jakarta on Wednesday before deploying its personnel to air drop humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The mission, conducted under the directive of the Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, aimed to distribute at least 800,000 kilograms (800 tonnes) of aid through air drop operations from Jordan, said Secretary General for the Defence Ministry Tri Budi Utomo.

The war began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas stormed into southern Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages, according to Israeli figures.

Israel's offensive against Hamas in Gaza since then has killed more than 61,000 Palestinians, according to local health officials.
