KARACHI (Dunya News) – A key development has taken place in the high-profile murder case of senior lawyer Khawaja Shamsul Islam, who was killed on August 1 in Karachi. Police have arrested the facilitator of the prime suspect, Imran Afridi, from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to sources, the arrested facilitator, named Hassan, helped the prime suspect Imran Afridi escape in a car after the shooting. The vehicle used in the crime has also been recovered from Hassan’s possession. The police say the suspect was arrested through technical surveillance.
Police are now interrogating the facilitator in hopes of tracking down and arresting Imran Afridi, the main accused. Raids are currently underway for his arrest.
In protest against the killing of Khawaja Shamsul Islam and other lawyers, lawyers held a strike at City Court, Malir Court, and other lower courts in Karachi. As a result, court proceedings were suspended, prisoners were not brought from jail, and litigants from distant areas faced difficulties.
In response to a call from the Karachi Bar Association, lawyers have also planned a rally from the Sindh High Court to the Chief Minister's House.
