LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has forecast the arrival of the seventh spell of monsoon rains from August 13 and issued a flood advisory for major rivers.
According to a PDMA spokesperson, there is a potential flood threat in the Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab, and Jhelum rivers, as well as their tributaries. The upcoming monsoon spell could cause dangerous rises in river water levels.
On special instructions from the Punjab Chief Minister, commissioners, deputy commissioners, and all relevant departments across the province have been put on alert. Departments including local government, agriculture, irrigation, health, forestry, livestock, and transport have been directed to make advance preparations.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia instructed all departments to remain ready for immediate response in case of emergency, ensure 24/7 staffing in control rooms, and keep Rescue 1122 teams on high alert. He further ordered the relocation of residents and livestock from riverbanks to safe locations.
The public has been urged to strictly follow safety guidelines, avoid swimming in rivers, canals, streams, and ponds, and cooperate fully with authorities in case of emergency evacuation.
PDMA has advised citizens to stay in touch with relevant agencies for the latest weather updates and instructions.
