MUZAFFARABAD (DUnya News) – A writ petition has been filed against the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Public Service Commission over alleged irregularities in the results of recent competitive examinations.
The petition, submitted on Wednesday by Barrister Kamran Ilyas Raja in the AJK High Court, questions the fairness of the recruitment results for the posts of Assistant Commissioner and Section Officer.
Filed under the case title Mohammad Waqas vs AJK Public Service Commission, the matter was heard by Justice Sardar Ejaz Khan, who issued a formal notice to the Commission and sought a detailed response. The next hearing is scheduled for 19 August.
According to the petition, several candidates performed exceptionally in most subjects but were failed the English paper. Despite filing rechecking applications, none of the candidates saw any change in their scores. The petition claims the results lack transparency and fairness.
During the hearing, Barrister Kamran Ilyas argued that the Commission had maintained that examiners’ scores were final and unchangeable. He pointed out that candidates were not even provided with the marking criteria, which, he noted, violates their constitutional right to information and undermines the principle of accountability.
The petition further contends that the rechecking process was merely a formality, aimed at collecting fees rather than offering any meaningful relief. This, the petitioner claimed, amounts to an injustice against candidates and contradicts the core principles of fairness and merit.
The case has raised broader concerns about the credibility and transparency of recruitment processes conducted by the AJK Public Service Commission. Civil society members and affected candidates have voiced strong support for reforms, calling the case a pivotal moment in the fight for transparency and merit-based governance in the region.
