Hearing of disqualification reference against Omar Ayub adjourned sine die

A five-member bench, headed by the Chief Election Commissioner, is hearing the reference

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Election Commission on Tuesday adjourned the hearing on the disqualification reference against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s leader Omar Ayub sine die due to his continued absence.

A five-member bench, headed by the Chief Election Commissioner, is hearing the reference. However, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub did not appear before the bench.

A junior lawyer informed the commission that the counsel was engaged at the Peshawar High Court and requested a new date. Subsequently, the commission adjourned the hearing for an indefinite period.

On May 30, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq forwarded a reference for Omar Ayub’s disqualification to the Election Commission of Pakistan. The reference is based on a petition filed by former MNA Babar Nawaz, who lost to Omar Ayub by a margin of 82,000 votes in the 2024 general elections from NA-18 (Haripur).
