Low-lying areas flooded as heavy rain lashes Lahore

The Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rain, strong winds

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Torrential rain accompanied by strong winds lashed Lahore, flooding low-lying areas and prompting authorities to remain on high alert.

Several parts of the provincial capital, including Mall Road, Hall Road, Abbott Road, Shimla Pahari, Lakshmi Chowk, Mozang, Qurtaba Chowk, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Canal Road, Multan Road, Chauburji, Samanabad, and Gulberg, experienced heavy showers, bringing much-needed relief from heat and humidity.

According to the Meteorological Department, an average of 40.4 mm of rain was recorded in the city over two and a half hours, with the heaviest rainfall of 89 mm recorded at Pani Wala Talab and the Airport area.

Other rainfall measurements included: Lakshmi Chowk 72 mm, Gulberg 49 mm, Jail Road 45 mm, Mughalpura 30 mm, Tajpura 47 mm, Chok Nakha 57 mm, Nishtar Town 40 mm, and Qurtaba Chowk 43 mm. Gulshan Ravi, Johar Town, and Iqbal Town each recorded 3 mm, while Samanabad saw 2 mm.

The Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms across much of the country from August 4.

The sixth spell of monsoon rains could worsen the existing flood situation, with upper and central regions expected to experience intensified monsoon currents, further strengthened by a western weather system by August 5.
