Two Punjab Assembly members suspended for unruly conduct

Khalid Nisar and Sheikh Imtiaz barred from 15 sessions over misconduct, ethics violations

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Two members of the Punjab Assembly have been suspended for violating the code of conduct and causing disruption during a recent session.

Acting Speaker Malik Zaheer Iqbal Channar issued immediate suspension orders against Khalid Nisar Dogar and Sheikh Imtiaz Mahmood.

According to the official notification, both lawmakers engaged in disorderly behaviour during the assembly proceedings.

Khalid Nisar Dogar was accused of attempting to physically attack a fellow member, while Sheikh Imtiaz Mahmood was charged with challenging the authority of the acting Speaker.

Their conduct, broadcast during the live coverage of the session, was deemed highly unprofessional and unparliamentary.

The notification states that both members are suspended from participating in 15 consecutive sittings and will not be allowed to attend until a ruling is made. The assembly emphasised that this strong action was taken to uphold the dignity of the house.

Chaos in Punjab Assembly as lawmakers trade blows

Earlier today, the Punjab Assembly descended into chaos when a heated exchange between treasury and opposition benches turned physical, leading to lawmakers slapping each other in the middle of the session.

The scuffle broke out when government MPA Hassan Riaz interrupted a speech being delivered by a deputy opposition member. Opposition MPA Khalid Nisar Dogar lost his cool and slapped Hassan Riaz during the session, causing a sudden uproar in the House.

Things quickly got out of hand as more lawmakers jumped into the fray. Acting Speaker Malik Zaheer Iqbal Channar tried to restore order but eventually had to call off the session for five minutes due to the ongoing brawl.

Sources said the physical altercation began after some name-calling and taunting between Hassan Riaz and opposition member Khalid Zubair Nisar. Provincial Minister Zeeshan Rafiq also waded into the fight, making matters worse.

Despite repeated warnings from the acting Speaker, members continued to lash out at one another. What began as a single slap soon turned into a free-for-all, with both sides exchanging a flurry of slaps.
