ISTANBUL (Web Desk) – Turkiye has unveiled its first hypersonic ballistic missile, the Tayfun Block-4, on the opening day of the International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF 2025) in Istanbul.
The missile, developed by Roketsan, is the hypersonic version of the original Tayfun missile – already Turkiye’s longest-range domestically-produced system.
Weighing over 7 tonnes, the Tayfun Block-4 is capable of destroying strategic targets such as air defence systems, command centres, and military infrastructure from long distances. According to Roketsan, it carries a multi-purpose warhead and is designed to break new ground in the Turkish defence industry.
Advanced missile line-up
Alongside the Tayfun Block-4, Roketsan showcased five other new defence systems. These include the Gökbora, a beyond visual range air-to-air missile with a range over 100 nautical miles, and Eren, a loitering munition with a range beyond 100 km, designed to engage low-speed aerial units and both armoured and unarmoured ground targets.

The Atmaca-Akata missile capsule was also unveiled, marking the submarine-launched version of Turkiye's existing anti-ship missile with a 250-kilometre range. Meanwhile, the 300 Er air-launched missile can strike strategic targets from more than 500 km, depending on altitude and speed at launch.
Space and strategy
Turkiye’s ambitions extended beyond atmospheric limits with the Simsek-2, a space launch vehicle capable of placing 1,500 kg payloads into a sun-synchronous orbit over 700 km high. Roketsan aims to conduct the first test of the Simsek-1 variant in 2027.
Roketsan’s CEO, Murat Ikinci, was quoted by Turkish media as saying that the firm is showcasing over 60 systems at IDEF 2025, with six brand-new platforms introduced this year. He highlighted the company’s role in strengthening both the operational capacity of the Turkish Armed Forces and the national economy through international exports.
IDEF 2025 runs through July 27, spread across multiple venues including Istanbul Fair Center, Ataturk Airport, WOW Hotel, and Atakoy Marina. Over 1,300 defence firms – 900 domestic and 400 international – from 44 countries including Pakistan are participating in this year’s edition, making it one of the largest in its history.
