ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar will embark on a visit to the United States next week, where he will lead Pakistan’s high-level signature events at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in New York and hold engagements in Washington.
During his visit to New York, Dar will chair a high-level open debate titled “Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes.”
According to the Foreign Office, the debate aims to strengthen multilateral mechanisms and promote diplomacy and mediation for the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
Regional focus
As part of Pakistan’s UNSC Presidency, the deputy premier will preside over the Council’s Quarterly Open Debate on the Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question. Additionally, he will chair a high-level briefing on enhancing cooperation between the UN and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). This initiative reflects Pakistan’s longstanding efforts to boost coordination between global and Islamic institutions for peace and security.
Ishaq Dar will also attend a high-level international conference on the peaceful settlement of the Question of Palestine and the implementation of the Two-State Solution, reaffirming Pakistan’s firm support for Palestinian self-determination.
Diplomatic engagements
Alongside these multilateral forums, Dar is scheduled to meet several foreign ministers and senior UN officials for bilateral discussions, underlining Pakistan’s active role in global diplomacy.
In a symbolic move prior to this visit, Pakistan had formally recommended US President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, for his role in de-escalating tensions between Pakistan and India and highlighting the Kashmir dispute on the global stage. The nomination letter was signed by Deputy Prime Minister Dar and sent to the Nobel Committee in Norway.
