Mosques across country welcome faithful for Aitkaf
The Punjab Auqaf Department issued list of those observing Aitkaf in Data Darbar mosque

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Hundreds of thousands of devout Muslims across the country have started observing Aitkaf (seclusion) as final Ashra (last ten days) of Ramazan begin.

This year, nearly 1,800 people are observing Aitkaf at Data Darbar Mosque in Lahore, 500 at Badshahi Mosque, and 8,500 men and 3,500 women at Minhaj-ul-Quran.

Earlier, mosques all over the country made arrangements for Aitkaf ahead of the last 10 days of Ramazan.

The Punjab Auqaf Department issued the list of those who would observe Aitkaf in Lahore’s Data Darbar mosque. Officials displayed list on shrine premises.

Sheikh Jameel, the shrine administrator, said the names of 1,800 people had been finalised after clearance by Special Branch.

Four sectors – each having 102 cabins – had been arranged for the Aitkaf observers, he added.

Other mosques in the city also made arrangements for special prayers and observance of Aitkaf.

In Islamabad, Faisal Mosque and other mosques welcomed the faithful desirous of observing Aitkaf.

More than 600 people are expected to sit in Faisal Mosque. The administration says no money will be charged from any participant this year as well.

Aitkaf is practiced during the last 10 days of the holy month of Ramazan as devout Muslims seclude themselves to pray and seek the blessings of Almighty Allah, following the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).

Men confine themselves to mosques, while women isolate themselves within their homes to dedicate their time to prayers.

This period is also dedicated to seeking Lailatul Qadr (the Night of Majesty) and asking for the forgiveness of Almighty Allah, while temporarily stepping away from daily routines and worldly affairs.
