LAHORE (Dunya News) - The 147th birth anniversary of Pakistan's national philosopher, Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, is being celebrated with great reverence and respect across the country today (Saturday).
In honor of the occasion, a dignified ceremony for the change of guards was held at the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal. The special guest for the event was Commander of the Pakistan Navy Central Punjab Rear Admiral Azhar Mahmood.
Rear Admiral Azhar Mahmood laid flowers at Iqbal's mausoleum and offered prayers.
He also inspected the guard of honor, which included contingents from the Pakistan Rangers and the Pakistan Navy.
The Navy's disciplined personnel assumed the honorary guard duties at Iqbal's mausoleum, while the Punjab Rangers contingent completed their duties and departed.
After the change of guards, a floral tribute was placed at the national poet's mausoleum by Admiral Naveed Ashraf, officers, sailors, and civilian staff of the Pakistan Navy.
The country is observing a public holiday today in commemoration of the birth of the "Shair-e-Mashriq" (Poet of the East), Allama Iqbal. In addition, his birthplace, Iqbal Manzil, has been beautifully decorated for the occasion.
