Pakistan looks forward to further strengthen, broaden ties with US: FO

Ms Baloch expressed the hope that the bilateral ties would strengthen after Trump’s re-election

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan has said that Islamabad “look forward to further strengthen and broaden relationship” with the United States in all fields.

Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated this while answering questions of journalists regarding Pakistan’s relations with the US after re-election of Donald Trump as 47th president on Nov 5 during press briefing the other day.

Ms Baloch said “our relations with the United States are decades old,” and expressed the hope that the bilateral ties would strengthen after Trump’s assuming the office of president again.

She called it “speculative” when asked President Trump could influence Pakistan’s internal politics and the sitting government could also be pressurized by him, a possible reference to jailed former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan.

“We see this as speculative reporting, and as I just said, Pakistan and the United States are old friends and partners, and we will continue to pursue our relations on the basis of mutual respect, mutual confidence and non-interference in each other's domestic affairs,” the spokesperson retorted.

Social media ran rife with a video in which Trump could be heard saying he would try to secure release of Imran Khan if he became president again.
