CM Maryam lays foundation stone of Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital

All patients across the country will be treated in the hospital: Punjab CM

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz laid the foundation stone of Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that this day materialised the dream they dreamt earlier. She also claimed that all the patients across the country would be treated in the hospital.

Maryam expressed that the establishment of this hospital was a long-cherished dream. “Today, we are taking a major step forward; no patient will be turned away from the Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital,” she affirmed.

The CM noted that the facility would serve not only Punjab but the entire country, providing relief from the burden of costly cancer treatments and diagnostics.

"Punjab is extending its resources beyond provincial boundaries," she added, stressing the hospital's national scope.

Addressing questions about the hospital's name, Maryam Nawaz remarked, “Some have asked why the hospital bears the name of Nawaz Sharif. He served as prime minister thrice, and his contribution is significant. This should settle any such questions.”

The chief minister shared that the project is set to complete in three years, with its first phase ready by Oct 2025. She urged prompt progress on the project, highlighting the government's commitment to efficiency and transparency. "We are dedicated to practical, on-ground action rather than words alone," she commented, adding that the hospital would be fully equipped with modern machinery to ensure comprehensive cancer care.

Maryam Nawaz also touched on recent strides to revive free medical services, which she claimed had been curtailed by the previous government. She stated, “Free medicines are now available again in government hospitals, and healthcare facilities are reaching people at their doorsteps.”

She also said that doctors would be facilitated. She also urged those doctors working abroad to return for equal future prospects in the country.
