Stop dreaming about 27th amendment, Rashid advises rulers

Says 26th amendment glorified PTI founder Imran Khan and Maulana Fazlur Rehman

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Wednesday warned that they [the government] would be in trouble if Maulana Fazlur Rehman gave a call against the [proposed] 27th constitutional amendment.

Speaking to media here, Sheikh Rashid expressed the hope that the Maulana would give a call against the 27th amendment.

In a possible reference to the 26th amendment, the former minister said it glorified two men – PTI founder Imran Khan and Maulana Fazlur Rehman – while others had lost their dignity. “The Maulana took out the sting of the 26th amendment. It [26th amendment] will come home to roost them, Rashid added.

He advised the rulers to “stop dreaming about the 27th amendment. If Maulana gives a call [against the 27th amendment], they will be in trouble.”

Talking about the judiciary, Rashid said that for the first time in the history of Pakistan an Afridi had become a chief justice. “Afridis had defeated the Sikhs, the British, the Russians and the Americans. I hope that Chief Justice Yahya Afridi will dispense justice in the country.”

The veteran leader was all praise for Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah. "All the dreams they (the rulers) were dreaming have been shattered.”

Rashid did not give a remark against former chief justice Qazi Faez Isa. “There is no need to say anything about what is happening with him,” he said.

He requested Army Chief Gen Asim Munir to pardon the people, a possible reference to May 9 mayhem. “It is not easy for a poor man to come to courts,” Rashid concluded.
