Police spring into action after three prison vans attacked near Islamabad toll plaza

Armed assailants attacked prison vans carrying dozens of inmates

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - As many as three prison vans came under attack on GT Road near Islamabad on Friday. 

According to details, armed assailants attacked the prison vans carrying dozens of inmates near the Islamabad toll plaza. 

Several prisoners fled the scene after the attack and indiscriminate firing on the vans. 

However, Islamabad IGP Ali Nasir Rizvi said all the inmates had been arrested again. 

The inmates were being brought from the Attock Jail for hearing. 

Later, police launched search operation in the area and arrested four suspects involved in the incident.

Sources said the son of a provincial minister was also arrested. 

“There were 82 inmates in three prison vans and they were being shifted to Attock Jail,” said Rizvi. 

He said there were 18 to 20 assailants who attacked the vans. 

The Islamabad police chief confirmed that four attackers had been arrested.
