Punjab govt delegates Section 144 authority to deputy commissioners

For any period exceeding 90 days, the authority will rest with the cabinet.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Punjab government has granted deputy commissioners the authority to impose Section 144 in their respective districts.

Following the approval of the bill in the Punjab Assembly, a gazette notification has been issued, allowing Deputy Commissioners to enforce Section 144 for up to 30 days as needed.

Additionally, the Secretary of Home Affairs in Punjab has been given the power to implement Section 144 for a duration of up to 90 days.

For any period exceeding 90 days, the authority will rest with the cabinet.

The Punjab government has amended the Code of Criminal Procedure 1898 accordingly.
