President signs trumpeted 26th constitutional amendment a day after parliamentary nod

The National Assembly and the Senate passed the amendment on Sunday night

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The 26th amendment was incorporated in the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan on Monday after President Asif Ali Zardari signed the bill.

The National Assembly and the Senate passed the amendment on Sunday night after days of wrangling between the treasury and opposition.

After the amendment was approved by both houses of parliament, the prime minister signed the advice to be sent to the president of Pakistan for ratification.

The notification of the amendment has also been issued after it has been implemented.

The National Assembly issued the Gazette Notification after which “the 26th Constitutional Amendment Bill 2024” became an Act of Parliament.

It may be recalled that after the implementation of the amendment, the chief justice of Pakistan will be picked by a parliamentary committee.
