ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The special parliamentary committee established for constitutional amendments has approved the draft, which will be presented at the cabinet meeting tomorrow (Oct 19).
ANP boycotted the meeting, while PTI and JUI-F opposed the draft.
The special committee's meeting took place at the Parliament House on Friday. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, PTI's Amir Dogar, JUI-F's Shahida Akhtar Ali, PML-N's Irfan Siddiqui, MQM's Aminul Haque, PPP's Raja Pervez Ashraf, Sherry Rehman, Rana Tanveer, Senator Anusha Rehman, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Ijazul Haq, Khalid Hussain Magsi, and others.
Forced legislation is being pushed: PTI
During the meeting, PTI member Amir Dogar stated that constitutional amendments are the government's job.
"We are taking risks; some of our members are seeking refuge. Personal privacy is being violated, and forced legislation is being carried out. Maulana Fazlur Rehman supports our stance," he added.
Committee drops ANP’s suggestions
The ANP's amendment was dropped from the proposed constitutional draft. ANP boycotted the meeting because the clause to change the province's name was not included, and Aimal Wali Khan did not attend the meeting. ANP had proposed removing "Khyber" from the province's name and suggesting "Pakhtunkhwa."
Later, the committee formed a joint draft and approved it, but the suggestions from allied parties were not included.
The committee decided that the draft would be presented for approval at the cabinet meeting tomorrow. After cabinet approval, it will be presented to the National Assembly and Senate.
