LAHORE (Muhammad Ashfaq) - The Lahore High Court has summoned the Punjab IGP, the Punjab Advocate General and registrar of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) in personal capacity tomorrow (Friday).
LHC Chief Justice Aliya Neelum heard an application filed by citizen Azam Butt for investigation into recent incidents in Lahore’s educational institutions.
Advocate Rana Sikandar, representing the applicant, presented the arguments.
The CJ remarked that a case was being heard in a full bench and the Punjab IGP had been directed to submit a report on a private college incident.
CJ Neelum expressed dismay over the incident, saying "an innocent girl was maligned and disrespected despite the fact it was not known whether she was subjected to crime or not."
"How can the Punjab IGP be negligent that he let the videos and pictures circulate," she said.
She asked why didn't police take any action after propagation of pictures and videos.
CJ Neelum directed all the officers to appear in court along with record. She also asked the IGP to submit report on the incident of alleged suicide by a Punjab University student.
She stated that the court needed a handwritten record of daily register rather than the computerised one.
Applicant’s lawyer contended that the Punjab Assembly speaker stated on the floor of the assembly that LCWU’s VC had informed him that the university was unable to take action against harassment.
The CJ inquired about the nature of complaints and harassment.
Lawyer stated that the media had reported the incident of harassment and he came to know about it through the media. However, the incident of suicide of Punjab University’s student must be investigated, the lawyer added.
Consequently, the Lahore High Court adjourned the case until Friday.
