ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Federal Board of Revenue announced on Tuesday another extension in the deadline for filing income tax returns for the tax year 2023-24 until October 31.
The previous deadline was October 14. According to the income tax ordinance, the original date for submitting tax returns was September 30.
According to the FBR, the extension was granted on the request of business organisations and tax bar associations, and closure of banks for three days in Islamabad and Rawalpindi due to SCO summit.
Meanwhile, the FBR said as of October 14, 4.537 million income tax returns were filed, compared to 2.183m during the same period last year – an increase of 107.83 percent. For the last tax year, the FBR received 6.464m returns. To reach last year’s level, it anticipates an additional 1.927m returns.
Preliminary data shows that from July 1, 2023 to October 14, 2024, 1.059m new filers were enrolled in the same period last year.
