Nawaz Sharif misses Indian PM Modi in SCO summit: Indian journalist Dutt

Sharif sees SCO summit as opportunity to rebuild ties between two countries, says Barkha Dutt

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Indian journalist Barkha Dutt met with former premier and Pakistan Muslim League (N) President Nawaz Sharif during her visit to Pakistan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was also present.

Dutt in an exclusive interview, revealed that Nawaz Sharif expressed his longstanding support for fostering better relations with India. Sharif, she said, sees the upcoming SCO summit as an opportunity to rebuild ties between the two countries.

Sharif also conveyed his hope that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi would attend the summit, stressing that a meeting between the two leaders could lead to meaningful dialogue.

According to Dutt, Sharif remained optimistic that he and Modi would have a chance to engage in talks soon.

Dutt added that Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar’s visit to Pakistan will be closely observed in both India and Pakistan. "It may influence the future course of bilateral relations" she held.
