(Web Desk) - AR Rahman has recorded a 30-minute performance video to endorse Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.
This makes AR Rahman the first South Asian artist to endorse the United States’ current Vice President.
Ahead of the US elections on November 5, 2024, the music icon’s video is poised to boost the Democratic presidential campaign.
It is also expected to increase Ms Harris’ visibility ahead of the election, where she aims to become the first female President of the United States.
Shekar Narasimhan, the Asian-American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Victory Fund Chairperson, said: “With this performance, AR Rahman has added his voice to a chorus of leaders and artists who are standing up for progress and representation in America.”
The AAPI Victory Fund is a political committee which seeks to encourage and mobilise eligible voters who are Asian Americans, as well as native Hawaiians, to step up and contribute to the country’s future.
Rahman’s public support not only highlights the increasing attention being given to this diverse voter group but also signals a broader wave of enthusiasm for the Harris-Walz ticket.
His endorsement reflects the campaign’s efforts to connect with AAPI communities, which are expected to play a key role in the upcoming election.
In conjunction with this announcement, a teaser video has been released featuring AR Rahman alongside MR Rangaswami, the founder of Indiaspora.
The video aims to build anticipation for Rahman’s upcoming performance, which is designed to engage AAPI voters and elevate Harris’ profile among this demographic.
