Pakistan reacts to Afghan govt concerns over Pakistan's political polarisation

Afghan govt should ensure that its own citizens don't destabilise neighbouring countries

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The spokesperson for the interim Afghan government, Abdul Qahar Balkhi, has expressed unnecessary concern and reservations regarding the current political situation in Pakistan.

In a message on social media platform X, Balkhi stated that tensions between the Pakistan government and political opponents had reached on a verge that were dangerous. He warned that if this continued, it could have negative effects on the entire region.

In response, Pakistani officials described the Afghan government’s statement as out of context, equating it to interference in Pakistan’s internal matters.

They suggested that it would be wise for the Afghan government to prioritise its governance and stability rather than meddling in Pakistan’s affairs.

Officials pointed out that the lack of basic rights for the Afghan people, economic decline, and the presence of terrorist safe havens posed far greater threats than Pakistan's internal political situation.

They urged the Afghan government to focus on addressing rising terrorism, extremist safe havens, and internal repression in Afghanistan.

Furthermore, officials emphasised that the Afghan interim government's attention should be on rectifying its failures, as this would benefit both its people and the region.

Pakistani authorities said that recently, 120 Afghans were arrested in Islamabad for attacking the police and disrupting public order.

They suggested that the Afghan government should ensure that its own citizens were not destabilising neighbouring countries.
