Traders petition: IHC bans gathering in Islamabad

Court cited security concerns during Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit

(Dunya News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Saturday directed that gathering was not allowed in response to a petition seeking to stop the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest, citing security concerns during the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

Chief Justice Aamer Farooq issued an order following a plea from local traders. The court instructed authorities to ensure there is no disruption or lockdown in the city.

The court directed the administration to allocate a designated area for PTI protestors, noting that while Articles 16 and 17 of the Constitution assure the right to assembly, these rights are subject to legal restrictions.

The court further noted concerns that PTI workers were coming towards the Red Zone, and called for immediate steps to maintain law and order.

It was also informed that the military was deployed under Article 245 to guard the capital, while Section 144 was also imposed. The case will be heard again on October 17.
