Number of pending challans drastically drops on LHC CJ's direction

Report claims substantial decrease in challans from 380,294 to 20,979

LAHORE (Muhammad Ashfaq) - The number of challans in Punjab has significantly dropped on the direction of Lahore High Court Chief Justice Aliya Neelum. 

The additional IG submitted a report in court in this regard. 

The written report revealed a substantial decrease in challans - from 380,294 to mere 20,979 - reflecting swift progress in tackling the backlog.

The disclosure came during a hearing at the Lahore High Court regarding a bail application in a drug-related case. CJ Neelum heard the case, wherein police officials provided an update on the status of pending challans across Punjab. 

According to the report, pending challans included 10,975 in Faisalabad, 9,913 in Lahore, 89 in Rawalpindi, and one each case in Multan and Nankana Sahib. Police assured the court that the remaining challans wiould be submitted to the prosecution department soon. 

The court directed the prosecution department to prepare a comprehensive report on challans. Moreover, the DIG was ordered to ensure the system was fully integrated to expedite the remaining cases and present an updated report on the next hearing.
