Johar Town sinkhole: A close shave for motorists

The car and motorbikes were brought out of the sinkhole by using crane.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - A car and two motorcycles fell into a wide sinkhole which developed on Johar Town Main Boulevard near Shaukat Khanum Hospital on Monday.

People timely pulled the trapped drivers and riders out of the pit by using a ladder.

Traffic was diverted to alternative routes by police on the directions of Chief Traffic Officer Ammara Athar.

Traffic got disrupted in the area due to diversion.

The car and motorbikes were brought out of the sinkhole by using crane. The driver of the car and bike riders stayed safe in the incident.

According to the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) officials, the sinkhole was formed due to the leakage of sewerage pipeline below the road.

A sinkhole is a cavity formed on a ground surface area after the removal of the material below.

Back in August reports of formation of sinkholes on roads in Lahore emerged during the monsoon season.
