LHC directs FIA to conclude investigation in Azma Bokhari fake video case

No presence of Facebook and Twitter offices in Pakistan creating some challenges in case

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Lahore High Court has directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to conclude the investigation of Azma Bokhari fake video case by October 11.

LHC Justice Aalia Neelum heard the case and FIA DG appeared before the court.

The FIA DG requested some time to complete the investigation of this case as he said that no presence of Facebook and Twitter offices in Pakistan creating some challenges.

FIA DG also informed the court that KP House had been raided and assistance of police could be sought but time was needed to probe the matter.

CJ inquired from FIA DG about no record filing in the register by officers. He responded that relevant people in cybercrime were appointed on contract and deputation basis.

The LHC remarked that people’s lives were at stake and you were talking about these things.

FIA DG requested that they need some time to probe the matter and sought the issue by setting the example in this case. The court inquired when this case would be concluded.

The FIA DG stated that they were increasing strength in the investigation committee and two to three weeks were needed to conclude this case. CJ inquired from the federal government’s lawyer about progress on this case.

The lawyer responded that Haider Ali was being investigated and his mobile was sent for forensic. The court ordered a report on the forensic of mobile phone within one week.

Lawyer also added that the legal action had been initiated against the accused who had not been arrested yet.

The court has directed the FIA to conclude the investigation in this case by October 11 and resolve this case on merit. Lahore High Court has also sought arguments on the legal status of Twitter and Facebook.
