Panthers beat Markhors to lift Champions One-Day Cup

Hasnain and Arafat took three wickets each

FAISALABAD (Dunya News) – Panthers secured a dominating five-wicket win over Markhors in final match to clinch inaugural Champions One-Day Cup at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad, on Sunday.

Shahdab Khan’s side achieved the target of 123 runs in just 18 overs. Abdul Wahid Bangalzai took a flying start for Panthers as he made 41 by smashing five 4s and two 6s while his opening partner Umar Siddiq was dismissed for 19 in early blows to Panthers.

Sajid Khan and Usman Khan made 15 and 13 runs respectively. After their dismissal, Shadab reached the crease and made unbeaten 14 off 9 to seal the win for his side.

Earlier, a stunning display of bowling performance by Panthers restricted Markhors from posting a big total in final match. Markhors were bowled out for just 122 runs in 33rd over, thanks to the skillful bowling by Mohammad Hasnain, Arafat Minhas and Sajid Khan.

Fakhar Zaman tried to build a strong opening partnership but his partner Zain Abbas was dismissed for just 6 in early blows to Markhors. He made 46 runs, highest from his side as no most of the batters were removed before they reach the 10-run mark.

Hasnain and Arafat took three wickets each while Sajid Khan claimed two scalps. 

Earlier, Markhors' captain Iftikhar Ahmed stated that the team had players who could single-handedly win matches. He expressed confidence in performing well in the final.

On the other hand, Panthers' captain Shadab Khan mentioned that the team’s morale was high, and they aimed to replicate their strong performance from the previous four matches in the final.
