Supreme Court fixes ECP's petition on election tribunals for hearing

The five-member bench headed by CJP Qazi Faez Isa will conduct the hearing on Sept 24

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Supreme Court on Friday fixed the petition of ECP regarding the formation of election tribunals in Punjab for hearing.

The five-member bench headed by CJP Qazi Faez Isa will conduct the hearing on Sept 24.

Other members of bench are Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi.

Earlier, the apex court had adjourned the hearing till the consultation between the ECP and Lahore High Court chief justice.

The Lahore High Court had given a verdict to constitute eight election tribunals in Punjab.

Later, the decision of LHC was challenged in the Supreme Court by the ECP.

“It is prerogative of Election Commission of Pakistan to constitute the election tribunals. LHC cannot exercise the powers of ECP,” said the ECP in its petition.
