ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry said on Thursday the government would be sent packing in coming 45 days.
He made these remarks while speaking to reporters outside the office of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) after his hearing in the ECP contempt case.
"I fully support the lawyers movement, the nation is standing with the lawyers and judiciary. Only senior-most judge will be the chief justice. Constitutional amendments are just for the personal objectives and nothing is being done for Pakistan,” he reiterated.
He criticised the constitutional package by dubbing it the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO), and declared it a trick to remove the judges the government abhorred.
"Nawaz Sharif had arrived in Islamabad from Lahore to vote for the amendment. The country is standing behind the apex court. They cannot change the basic structure of the constitution of Pakistan. The government will end in 45 days," he claimed.
He said the government had cut off its nose to spite its face in its pursuit of creating friction with the SC.
“The government has made a mockery of democracy in Pakistan. Someone with mere 18 seats has become the premier of the country. No one has bothered to read the proposed constitutional amendments,” he deplored.
"The government is afraid of Imran Khan's acquittal. The moment Khan comes out of jail, a huge number of people will take to the street," he claimed.
The former minister decried “propaganda” being spread in the country, adding that countries could not be run through arrests.
