Gohar Ijaz demands forensic audit of IPPs

Some power plants are lying nonfunctional for years, however, payments are being paid to them.

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) -- Former caretaker federal minister of commerce and industry, Gohar Ijaz, has called for a forensic audit of the Independent Power Producers (IPPs).

Addressing a press conference, he said that people are unable to sustain their business due to the surging prices of electricity. He urged the government to buy electricity from producers at affordable rates.

He said its not the job of the government to engage in business.

Mr Ijaz said that entrepreneurs of Pakistan are facing financial issues and without finances one can not move forward. He said Pakistan belongs to 240 million people, not just a select few.

He said the consumers are being forced to pay the price of the electricity which is not being generated. We are receiving inflated bills which are being dispatched with malafide intention, he claimed.
