Govt notifies Muharram holidays on July 16, 17

Ashura to be observed on July 17

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News)- The federal government on Tuesday announced a two-day public holiday on Muharram 9 and 10.

"[…] the Prime Minister is pleased to declare 16th and 17th July, 2024 (Tuesday and Wednesday) as public holidays on the occasion of Ashura (9th & 10th Moharram 1446 AH)," a notification issued by the Cabinet Division stated.

The government earlier approved the deployment of the army and civil armed forces for Muharram security.

The notification mentions that details about army deployment will be discussed with relevant authorities. The deployment of army and civil armed forces has been allowed for an indefinite period.

The army as a quick response force is going to be deployed on request of provinces. The provinces will decide about the places and numbers of deployment of army troops.

Earlier, the Sindh government approved the deployment of army, rangers and FC personnel.
