Increase in POL prices challenged in LHC

Advocate Azhar Siddique of Judicial Activism Panel on Monday moved a petition in the LHC

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The increase in the prices of petroleum products has been challenged in the Lahore High Court. Advocate Azhar Siddique of Judicial Activism Panel on Monday moved a petition in the Lahore High Court.

The petitioner contended that the POL prices had been significantly cut down in the international market but the benefit had not been passed on to consumers in Pakistan. He demanded that the court stop implementation of the new prices.

The government on Sunday increased the price of petrol by Rs7.45 per litre and that of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs9.56 per litre for the next fortnight.

After the latest increase, the new price of petrol is fixed at Rs265.61 per litre while the HSD price is set at Rs277.45 per litre for the next 15 days.

The notification from the finance ministry said the price variations were worked out by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) based on figures of the international market..
