ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The government on Sunday increased the price of petrol by Rs7.45 per litre and that of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs9.56 per litre for the next fortnight.
After the latest increase, the new price of petrol is fixed at Rs265.61 per litre while the HSD price is set at Rs277.45 per litre for the next 15 days.
The notification from the finance ministry said the price variations were worked out by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) based on figures of the international market.
The government also increased the price of light diesel oil by Rs9.88 per litre. The price of kerosene oil was increased by Rs10.5 per litre. Kerosene is mostly used by unscrupulous elements to mix with petrol and, to some extent, for lighting in very remote areas.
Petrol is mostly used for private transport, small vehicles, rickshaws, and two-wheelers and has a direct bearing on the budgets of the middle and lower-middle classes.
Most of the transport sector runs on HSD. It is mostly used in heavy transport vehicles, trains and agricultural engines such as trucks, buses, tractors, tubewells and threshers.
