Thaw in sight as PM Shehbaz forms committees to address PPP's concerns

Bilawal Bhutto raises concerns over not taking his party into confidence on budget

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed committees to address the concerns raised by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari in a meeting with him. 

The meeting between PPP’s stalwarts and PML-N leaders came after Bilawal skipped the National Assembly session when the budget for the next fiscal year 2024-25 was presented on June 12. 

During the meeting the prime minister agreed on most of the concerns raised by the PPP chief and ordered formation of committees to address his complaints. 

The committees, according to sources, would holds talks on Friday to resolve the issues between the ruling partners. 

At one point, Bilawal expressed concern over not taking the PPP into confidence regarding the budget. He highlighted that the PPP had supported the government under an agreement, which is not being implemented by the PML-N. 

He also accused the Punjab government of creating hurdles for the PPP in the province. 

PM Shehbaz urged all the political parties to work together for the development and prosperity of the country and public welfare. 

The PPP delegation included Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Syed Khursheed Shah, Syed Naveed Qamar and Sherry Rehman. 

Speaking on the occasion, the premier said further consultation was held with the Pakistan Peoples Party regarding the budget 2024-2025. He said economy was showing positive indicators while stock market had witnessed historic boom. 

He said steps had been taken to provide relief to the common man in the budget of the new financial year. He said more consultation would continue through committees. 

Later, a dinner party was thrown by the prime minister in the honour of the PPP delegation. 

National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah, Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Ali Pervez Malik and former federal minister Khawaja Saad Rafique were also present.
