Muslims in Middle East, across Europe and America celebrate Eidul Azha

The festivity is dampened amid Israel’s war in Gaza where over 37,000 Palestinians have been killed

(Web Desk) – Muslims across the Middle East, Europe and Americas are observing the religious festival of Eidul Azha on Sunday (today).

The festival commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's sacrifice of his son Ismail on Allah’s command.

The Eid is celebrated in the Middle East following Saudi Arabia. However, the festivity is dampened this year amid Israel’s war on Hamas in Gaza where more than 37,000 Palestinians have been killed. Eid prayers were said in various cities in the occupied Gaza in makeshift camps without sacrificing animals.

The UAE, Qatar, Jordan, Kuwait, Iraq and other Arab states marked the festival on Sunday. In Saudi Arabia, Muslims gathered for the Eid prayer in more than 12,000 mosques, including Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.

In various European countries, including Russia, Muslims are celebrating Eidul Azha on Sunday. In the United Kingdom, however, some Muslims sects have been marking the festival on Sunday and some will observe on Monday. Similarly, in the United States and Canada, the festival will be marked on Sunday and Monday. Australian and Chinese Muslims are also celebrating Eid on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Eid in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Iran, Malaysia and Indonesia will be celebrated on Monday.
