Death anniversary of veteran actor Jamil Fakhri being observed

He gained great popularity through his role as SHO in TV series 'Andhera Ujala'

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Thirteen years have passed since the death of veteran theatre and TV actor Jamil Fakhri as his fans and lovers are observing his death anniversary on Sunday (today).

Jamil Fakhri gained great popularity through his role as SHO Jaffar Hussain in TV series 'Andhera Ujala'.

Beside acting in television dramas, he also acted in more than 50 Pakistani films.

He was awarded pride of Performance Award by the President of Pakistan in 2002 and Nigar Award for best comedian award in film Yeh Zamana Aur Hai in 1981.

Fakhri died on June 9, 2011 at the age of 65. He was laid to rest at Ilm Din Shaheed compound at Miani Sahib Graveyard in Lahore.

A few months before his death, the dead body of his young son Ali Ayaz Fakhri was sent back to Pakistan from the United States.

Ali Ayaz was kidnapped in the US and Fakhri had to reach out to the Pakistani authorities in the United States in order to hear about his son who had gone missing there.

The death of his young son proved to be a real setback for the highly acclaimed actor as Fakhri had gone into seclusion for a number of months.

Jamil Fakhri was born in Lahore in 1946. He worked in the National Bank for a number of years before adopting a career as a professional actor.

He was regarded as one of the pioneer actors who ever displayed their talent at the PTV.

His role as SHO Jaffer Hussain in the PTV drama ‘Andhera Ujala’ made him rose to the heights of greatness.

Other dramas in which Fakhri starred included Piyas, Dunyadari, Lahore Junction, Waris etc. He also appeared in a number of films as well. Fakhri had the privilege of being awarded with Pride of Performance awards for radio, television, theatre and film.
