Govt plans not to tax erstwhile FATA in federal budget

IMF proposal to impose tax on former FATA rejected

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The federal government while rejecting the proposal of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has prepared a plan to give tax exemption to erstwhile FATA.

According to sources, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is considering a proposal to give tax exemption to former FATA in the upcoming federal budget.

Sources say that there will be income tax, sales tax and FED exemption for businesses, factories in former FATA, tax exemption for former FATA will be given due to economic conditions. Tax exemption for former FATA ended in 2023.

Sources say the IMF had suggested ending the tax exemption for the former FATA.

According to FBR sources, a proposal has been prepared to give tax exemption to the former FATA for one more year.

There is also a proposal to establish a check post on the border of the former FATA.
