Afridi picked up 10 wickets at an average of 14.5 in May

(Web Desk) -Players from the West Indies, Pakistan and Ireland are in contention for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for May 2024.

Pakistan's fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, West Indies player Gudakesh Motie and Ireland's Lorcan Tucker have been nomited for the title.

Shaheen Afridi (Pakistan)

Pakistan’s premier left-arm pacer picked up 10 wickets at an average of 14.5 in May. Shaheen Afridi was lethal with the new ball during his side’s tour of Ireland and England as he collected a trio of three-wicket hauls in a row, two against Ireland and one against England.

The second of these came in the deciding T20I of the three-game T20I series against Ireland. Shaheen registered a break through in all three stages of the innings, and earned a Player of the Match award for his 3/14.

He also dismissed the likes of Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali during his 3/36 against England in the second T20I in Birmingham.

Gudakesh Motie (West Indies)

One of the trio of spinners in the West Indies squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, Gudakesh Motie stood out in his side’s emphatic 3-0 series win over South Africa last month.

He started brilliantly in the first T20I, plucking three crucial wickets in the middle overs to derail South Africa’s chase of 176. Motie performed a similar role in the second T20I, returning impressive figures of 3/22 to ensure South Africa fell short of a win by 16 runs. Two more wickets followed in the final T20I, even as Motie finished with eight wickets at the average of 8.5.

Lorcan Tucker (Ireland)

The Ireland wicketkeeper-batter Lorcan Tucker hit the ground running with a 51 against Pakistan in the second T20I at Dublin, and went on to hit four 40+ scores over a span of four innings.

The finest was his 41-ball 73, including 13 fours and a six, in the deciding T20I against Pakistan. Captaining Ireland for the first time, he led by example with his fiery knock and helped set a strong total in the first innings.

Overall he scored 227 runs in six innings at an average of 37.83.
