TikTok tests Snapchat-inspired streaks feature to boost engagement

This move aligns with TikTok's ongoing efforts to innovate and retain its user community

(Web Desk) - TikTok has initiated trials for a new feature reminiscent of Snapchat's popular streaks in a bid to enhance user engagement and keep audiences hooked.

While TikTok has officially confirmed the testing phase, no formal statement has been issued regarding its implementation.

The experimental feature, known as "streaks," is currently being experimented in limited markets and among selective users.

Reports indicate that the concept mirrors Snapchat's streak mechanism, wherein users maintain a consecutive messaging exchange over multiple days.

The rules for TikTok's streaks are straightforward, users must engage in direct messaging for more than three consecutive days to initiate a streak.

Once established, a streak badge appears within the chat, accompanied by the tally of consecutive days. The streak concludes when communication ceases for a 24-hour period.

TikTok sends reminders to users nearing the end of their streaks to encourage sustained interaction. The platform offers an option to disable streak notifications for those who prefer less interruption.

This feature can be accessed through the app's settings menu, specifically under Privacy > Notifications > Streak settings, where users can also opt out of in-app notifications.

Snapchat's streaks have long served as a symbol of friendship and frequent interaction between users. TikTok's adoption of this concept aims to cultivate a similar sentiment among its user base.

This move aligns with TikTok's ongoing efforts to innovate and retain its user community.

Last year, Snapchat introduced paid features allowing users to pause streaks and restore them, capitalizing on the feature's popularity.

As TikTok ventures into new territory with its streaks feature, the platform continues to explore ways to enrich user experiences and maintain its position as a leading social media platform.
