Vawda ready to accept whatever decision Supreme Court announces

Senator says seeking forgiveness is not a sin, but it necessitates acknowledging wrongdoing

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Senator Faisal Vawda on Wednesday stated he would accept whatever decision the Supreme Court announced, more than two weeks after the initiation of contempt proceedings against him for his verbal onslaught directed at high court judges.

The apex court had taken a suo motu notice of Vawda's May 15 press conference, where he had indirectly implied that high court judges had vilified the country’s intelligence agencies.

The court had instructed the PEMRA [Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority] to submit the video recording and transcript of Vawda’s presser.

Vawda, who submitted his response to a show-cause notice on Tuesday (yesterday), said that “seeking forgiveness is not a sin, but it necessitates acknowledging wrongdoing”. He said that one could seek forgiveness even from a person sitting by the side of a road.

Vawda insisted that he spoke about the letter and two judges in his press conference.

The senator expressed his commitment to abide by the apex court’s decision, reaffirming his respect for the chief justice of Pakistan and other judges on the bench.

The senator also remarked that Pakistan’s progress hinged upon fixing the justice system in the country.
