LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court on Friday commenced hearing on a petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf challenging the Election Commission of Pakistan's authority to withdraw the party’s election symbol of bat.
Justice Abid Aziz Shaikh, who conducted the proceedings, directed the counsel for the federation to submit arguments regarding the jurisdiction of the ECP.
The petition was moved by several office-bearers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
The petition argues that the withdrawal of PTI’s electoral symbol on part of the ECP prior to the general elections constituted an illegal action.
It requests the court to declare the Sections 215, 209, 208 and others of the Election Act as unconstitutional.
Later, the court adjourned the proceedings until June 4.
